Project Profile

Tel Hai Retirement Community | Wood’s Edge Expansion

Horst Excavating was selected as the Prime Contractor and site contractor for the Wood’s Edge Expansion at Tel Hai Retirement Community in Honey Brook, PA. The project included comprehensive site development for 44 new cottages across areas with varying existing conditions, including open fields, wooded areas and an existing stormwater basin that required relocation.

Early in the project, crews encountered a significant amount of unsuitable fill that could not support the planned construction. Horst worked closely with Tel Hai to develop a solution that maximized the use of suitable soils already on site while properly removing unsuitable material. This approach provided a stable foundation for the new cottages while helping minimize the cost impact to the owner.

Work was completed within an active senior living community, requiring careful coordination around existing residents, pedestrian activity, utilities and ongoing community operations.

Testimonial

“Working with Horst Excavating on the Woods Edge Cottage Expansion was a very good experience. Their team, Brian, Jason, Eli, Matt, Russ, and others, were great to work with and truly collaborative throughout the project. What stood out most was how they took ownership of a challenging soil issue on our campus. Rather than treating it as someone else’s problem, they approached it as their own and delivered a cost‑effective solution. Communication was excellent; the team stayed on top of the project, kept me informed of any issues, and even coordinated additional resources when needed to ensure the schedule stayed on track. I would absolutely recommend Horst Excavating; they are knowledgeable, proactive, and always keep the client’s best interests in mind.”
