Horst Excavating’s Small Projects Team was selected to help the Manheim Veterans Memorial Committee finalize its vision for the Veterans’ Memorial Plaza. The beautiful and thoughtful design honors local veterans and the sacrifices they made to protect our country.
Textured concrete and brick walkways wind below the trees in a unique gear shape that opens to a central plaza. A US flag waves above, surrounded by seven additional flagpoles — one for each branch of the armed services. As night falls, the flags are illuminated by a ring of ground-recessed lights. Within lies a central gazebo that provides reflection space, and seating walls line the plaza’s edge. Customized inscribed bricks are set in the plaza and pathways, commemorating local veterans and donors. Landscaping and plaques lend detail and context to the memorial.
